This one-hour workshop introduces social workers and other behavioral health professionals to the key concepts and emerging evidence around the social determinants of mental health (SDMH). SDMH are the non-medical factors that influence a person's mental well-being. Participants will explore how factors such as housing, education, racism, income inequality, and access to care shape mental health outcomes across populations. SDOMH can create cycles of disadvantage, where poor mental health and related social and economic challenges are passed down through generations. The session will integrate case scenarios, and practical strategies for addressing SDMH in clinical and community-based practice.

Define and describe key social determinants of mental health and their impact on individuals and communities;
